I wouldn't say the footballers are low profile, they are top sportspeople just like NFL or whatever in the US. There was a massive backlash to the abuse too, quite rightly.
Someone got sentenced today (or was it yesterday) for their fb abuse https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-58490690 and Instagram are being highlighted https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58466849 I notice that in the US racist and abusive comments are treated as one and the same, whereas in the UK I would say that racist abuse is on a par with being a paedo, whereas being otherwise abusive is not seen as 'bad' yet. Half of the Instagram posts were from overseas, and Twitter didn't clarify if the majority of abusive posts from the UK were also the majority of racist abuse (I'm sure they were but would be nice to know for certain). Hate to say this, might be best to remove the money and banana emojis from UK users :(
So good to see steady progress in abuse prevention tools. This is becoming a norm, and I’m looking forward to a generation of social networks that start with these patterns baked into the initial design. Also, another fine batch of tweets, well done 👏

definitely high profile relative to the average person! but the finals raised their profile dramatically and turned them into targets
