I'm glad to hear you're taking a more nuanced approach to the surgeon general's report. To me, your piece earlier this week sounded a bit like a garden variety moral panic. I'm interested to hear you and Kevin discuss this issue in more detail tomorrow on Hard Fork.

I would suggest that there’s a ton of good research backing up the Surgeon General’s warning. You can read Haidt’s After Babel Substack for more supporting data than you can shake a stick at.

Maybe Casey over-supposed his audience’s knowledge of the topic. Felt like a good summary of a known and super tough issue.

Overblown. Kids will mostly be OK. Compare them to 40 million American adults who don't accept the 2020 election results.

Some of those kids will become those very adults, so I don't think that useful. The thing that makes me uneasy on this issue is, there are some exposures that we know are better deferred to adulthood as they are damaging to young brain development. E.g. studies show a teen alcohol exposure association with serious problems in adulthood. I know that is drug exposure is a different kettle of fish, but it's not unreasonable to suppose certain social media exposure early in life can affect development.
